Startel Achieves Compliance in HIPAA Data Security

Annual compliance assessment results in data security assurance

Startel Corporation, has successfully completed its third annual assessment of data security compliance required under the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This validation reinforces Startel’s commitment to protecting consumer data and privacy.

Startel engaged Coalfire, a global leader in cyber risk management and compliance services to perform the third-party compliance assessment. Coalfire evaluated the controls Startel had in place to satisfy requirements of the HIPAA Security Rule, including the additional IT security-related requirements identified under HITECH and the Omnibus Rule. Coalfire determined that the design and effectiveness of Startel’s control environment is sufficient to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information (ePHI) data.

“Achieving HIPAA compliance for the third consecutive year is a true indication of Startel’s commitment to data security and privacy,” said Andrew Hicks, healthcare practice director at Coalfire. “We recognize Startel for their solid security program and dedication to compliance.”

“As a technology vendor, security is the core of our brand,” said Bill Lane, president and CEO of Startel. “Undergoing annual data security audits gives us a competitive advantage and provides our customers and our customers’ clients with a greater level of assurance in our solutions, environment and processes.”

Startel will sign Business Associate Agreements with customers who require HIPAA compliance. Organizations interested in using Startel’s HIPAA-compliant solutions should contact sales@startel.com.
